The Master’s Gentle Rebuke: On the Futility of Judging Others

 Confucius said to Zi Gong, who liked to compare others: “Are you so perfect? I have no time for that.”

Zi Gong was in the habit of comparing men together. The Master said, “Ci must have reached a high pitch of excellence! Now, I have not leisure for this.”

子贡方人。子曰:“赐也贤乎哉?夫我则不暇。”
