The Good Man and the Steadfast: The Value of Constancy

Confucius said: I cannot hope to see a good man, but to see a person of constancy would suffice.

A good man it is not mine to see; could I see a man possessed of constancy, that would satisfy me.

善人,吾不得而见之矣;得见有恒者,斯可矣。
