The Three Harmful Pleasures: Confucius’s Warning Against Joy That Corrodes

Confucius warned: “There are three harmful pleasures: joy in arrogance, in idleness, and in revelry.”

There are three things men find enjoyment in which are injurious, to find enjoyment in extravagant pleasures; to find enjoyment in idleness and sauntering; to find enjoyment in the pleasures of feasting – these are injurious.

损者三乐:乐骄乐,乐佚游,乐宴乐,损矣。
