The Unemployed Sage: “If It Were State Affairs, I Would Have Heard”

Confucius said: “If it were state affairs, though not employed, I would have been informed.”

If there had been government business, though I am not now in office, I should have been consulted about it.

如有政,虽不吾以,吾其与闻之。
