The Way to Exalt Virtue: Put Action Before Gain

Confucius said: “Is it not the way to exalt virtue to make doing what should be done the first business, and success secondary?”

If doing what is to be done be made the first business, and success a secondary consideration – is not this the way to exalt virtue?

先事后得，非崇德与？
