The Mask of Sincerity: When Solid Speech is Just a Grave Facade

Confucius asked: “If a man’s speech seems sincere, is he truly a gentleman, or is his gravity merely superficial?”

If, because a man’s discourse appears solid and sincere, we allow him to be a good man, is he really a superior man? or is his gravity only in appearance?

论笃是与,君子者乎?色庄者乎?
