The Way to Serve a Ruler: “Do Not Deceive, But Do Not Shrink from Offending”

Confucius said: “In serving a ruler, do not deceive him, but withstand him to his face.”

Do not impose on him, and, moreover, withstand him to his face.

勿欺也,而犯之。
