Confucius said: Fine words, a fawning appearance, and excessive respect are things Zuo Qiu Ming and I are ashamed of.

Fine words, an insinuating appearance, and excessive respect – Zuo Qiu Ming was ashamed of them. I also am ashamed of them.

巧言、令色、足恭,左丘明耻之,丘亦耻之。
