The Wise Man’s Adaptation: Upright in Deed, Cautious in Word When Needed

Confucius said: “In a well-governed state, be upright in word and deed; in a poorly governed state, be upright in deed but cautious in word.”

When good government prevails in a state, language may be lofty and bold, and actions the same. When bad government prevails, the actions may be lofty and bold, but the language may be with some reserve.
