The Burning Stable: A Question of Men, Not Horses

When the stable burned down, Confucius returned from court and asked, “Was anyone hurt?” He did not ask about the horses.

The stable being burned down, when he was at court, on his return he said, ‘Has any man been hurt?’ He did not ask about the horses.

厩焚。子退朝,曰:“伤人乎?”不问马。
